Police officers have sniffed out a large stash of cannabis after catching a waft of the pungent drug while on patrol.








A large amount of cash was also seized after officers became aware of a smell of cannabis coming from a property in Cardigan Place, off Russell Street.


A police spokesman said a woman in her 50s and a man in his 20s, both from the Norwich area, have both been arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply cannabis.


They have since been released from custody and remain under investigation while enquiries continue.


Following the incident, which happened at about 3.10pm on Friday, June 2, a man who lives in the area, but who did not want to be named said: “It doesn’t surprise me that the police took action.


“On Friday afternoon, the smell of cannabis around here was incredibly strong. It’s not right, especially when there’s children around.”


It is not the first time officers have used their noses to sniff out drugs in the county.


In June 2013, police swooped to seize a £250,000 drug haul in a raid on a West Norfolk cannabis factory.


Norfolk Constabulary carried out the raid at a property on Sparrowgate Road, on the outskirts of Wisbech, after local police officers noticed a strange smell in the air.


Upon entering the scene the officers discovered 3,500 cannabis plants along with growing equipment and generators - one of the largest hauls of its kind in West Norfolk.


Possible signs of a cannabis factory include:


• Large amounts of lighting and ventilation equipment


• Covered up or blocked windows


• High condensation levels on windows


• Comings and goings to a property at all hours
