Cops leave cheeky note after seizing wild cannabis crop
Police pulled up more than 30 cannabis plants left growing in a Plymouth field – and left a note for the owners saying they could come and collect them from the station.
A keen eyed member of the public called police after spotting the two-and-a-half feet high marijuana plants in a Tamerton Foliot field on Thursday afternoon.
Pc Mark Freshwater and PCSO Adam Bell from the north neighbourhood team attended and quickly spotted the offending items.
Pc Freshwater said the passerby had immediately recognised the plants, not least because of the powerful smell they gave off.
He said after arriving he and PCSO Bell pulled up and bagged 31 plants, which he claimed may have been "worth quite a few pounds" as they were "just a few weeks off cropping".
He said: "They were right out in the open, but with no hydroponics to accelerate growth they may be a few months old."
Pc Freshwater said that as some of the plants were supported by stakes, he decided to leave the green-fingered owners a small note.
He wrote 'Dear Horticulturists, We have your plants at Crownhill police station. Should you wish to claim them, give us a call on 101. Best wishes, the Tamerton neighbourhood team' adding a smiley face as a sign off.
Pc Freshwater told The Herald: "We didn't want them to worry that they had been a victim of theft..."
